Introduction

Greetings, and welcome to my website. I am glad you are here.
I discovered that I was a magician when I was seven years old. After twenty years of exploring just what that means, I can now proudly say that I know just as little, or just as much, as I did when I was just a boy.
Most of what I currently know, experience and believe has emerged in some way out of asking one seemingly simple question: What is magic? The search for the answer remains at the core of my existence as both a magician as well as a human being— the two of which I now believe are interchangeable.
I used to think that if I looked hard enough, one day I would be able to understand what this thing called magic really was. Perhaps with this secret knowledge, I would be able to access the magical state I so desired. Like the magic trick, which only has its power when the logic that makes it work is precise, surely there was a perfect explanation for this transformational way of being, and I just had to find it.
At first to my dismay, but now to my great relief and excitement, I no longer search for the answer. Whereas I once believed that I had to understand magic in order to actually be a magician, I am now convinced that the only key to being a magician is to never stop looking for the key. This mindset has sent me off into countless directions, while many more await.
Over time, I have come to believe that magic can be anything— it is boundless is its form, scope and ability. Set free by this realization, I have been presented with a framework to work within that allows me to recognize everything that I do as magic, as well as everything done by those around me. For that matter, it has become rather easy to recognize everyone around me as magicians as well.
Though I am trained in sleight of hand, and believe that the practice and mastery of illusion provides deep insights into the nature of reality, much of what I create has no trick at all. Throughout my journey through magic thus far, I have be led to created films, sculptures, puppets, paintings, essays, performance art, and yes, even magic shows. The pursuit of magic keeps me in a constant state of creation, and, whenever possible, I strive to bring people there with me.
What you will find on this website is the remnants of past creations, the documentation of current explorations, and the seeds of future endeavors.
Some might call this my “work,” but truthfully, it is much more like play.
Once again, I am glad you are here.
I hope you enjoy your stay.
Until we meet again,
David London
